Announcement!! I have a new book coming out later this year. Pantera Press are bringing “Blood, Sweat and Glitter” to the masses.
A lot has happened since I wrote my last book, Try Hard. I grew a whole human in my body, got three life-changing diagnoses, and witnessed J-Lo marry—and divorce—Ben Affleck for a second time. My new book, Blood, Sweat, and Glitter, picks up at the end of 2019 and spans the four hectic years that followed.
Turns out, I spent most of the early 2020s dissociating just to survive, so writing this book has been a journey of discovery for me too. It’s a memoir, sure, but it’s also an anxiety- and rage-fueled treasure map to understanding neurodiversity, peri-menopause, and what it means to be a “woman of a certain age” in modern society.
As usual I’ve held nothing back, detailing the dazzling highs and soul-crushing lows, plus I’ve included informative side quests where I Emsplain the more hectic medical or psychological topics that pop up. There will also be delicious illustrations (provided by my daughter Odette) and plenty of glossy pictures because, let’s face it, I know my audience. Imagine if The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole was written by a peri-menopausal mother of three, with a sprinkling of Encyclopaedia Britannica thrown in for gravitas.
It’s my hope that Blood, Sweat, and Glitter will help a lot of people feel seen and validated. Maybe it’ll even be the kind of book you pass along to someone you think needs it. My goal is to create the literary equivalent of an amusing passive-aggressive meme you’d send to a family member to help them get (ADHD, Autism, Peri-menopause, being a woman/AFAB over 40)—but in book form. You get the idea!
